Scent Hurdle II

August 31, 2011

The last agility event I went to, also included a few scent hurdle races that evening so I hung around to photograph those as well.  The dogs were all VERY focused on their jobs and not a single one of them paid attention to me even though I was sitting pretty close to one of the running lanes.  If you missed my last post about this sport, be sure to check it out as I explained the sport a little .  Enjoy the gallery!

CKC Agility Trial

August 27, 2011

Last weekend I went to my last agility trial of the season.  This one was a CKC trial hosted by the Weimaraner Association of Canada. They held it at the gorgeous Wet Noses facility.  They really had a great set up there!  It has been a busy week but I’m finally getting around to editing the photos. These were just a few favourites from the Saturday events.

Winter Changes

August 26, 2011

Last winter we were very busy.  So busy, many of you who called to get in with just a few days notice couldn’t get a spot.  In the winters we usually recommend people pick a regular schedule for their dog – i.e. come every Monday, or every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, etc and we are still recommending this. With a regular spot, your dog is booked in and you never need to worry about us not having space.  But we realize that doesn’t work for everyone as not everyone’s work/life schedule is consistent.

So this winter, as soon as we start to become full on a regular basis, we are going to stop accepting new clients.  We’ll put them on a waiting list and if we start to consistently have days when there are openings, we’ll contact the people on the waiting list and see if they are still interested in coming.  It isn’t ideal, but it is the best we’ve been able to come up with.

So if you have a friend who has been meaning to bring their dog, but haven’t quite gotten around to it yet, tell them to hurry up and come before they can’t!  And if you want your dog booked in for a regular day or days this fall and winter, please let us know as soon as possible before all the spots are full.

You should have received an email about this as well.  If you didn’t please let us know and we’ll make sure you are added to our mailing list!  You can email us at

A Lesson

August 25, 2011

I haven’t had much time to even look through the photos I took at last weekend’s CKC Agility Trial, and I’ve just started going through Sunday for the first time.  If you are patiently waiting, I hope to have them up some time on Saturday!  Anyway, as I was going through the photos, I spotted this series and  thought I’d share a lesson on how NOT to leave the teeter.  Hope you don’t mind Kiersten!  :)

The Elusive Cooper

August 24, 2011

Ironically I was just talking to Carla (Monty’s (another black standard poodle) mom) about how hard it is to get a good picture of a black poodle.  Their puffy top knot often casts their eyes into shadow, and I think it is nice to see at least see the shine of their eyes as otherwise their faces tend to look like a black blob.  We’ve been trying for a while to get a good picture of Cooper for the board and the stars finally aligned for us yesterday.

Two Peas in a Pod

August 23, 2011

While not the best photos, these two of Jackson (black lab) and Amy (chocolate lab) cracked me up.  It is like they synchronized a routine or something.

Almost Too Hot

August 23, 2011

It was almost too hot to run yesterday, but a few dogs still put in the effort.  Cody for example, couldn’t resist.

And neither could Fin.  She was pretty excited to see me crouched down and came running to give me a kiss.  :)

Lexi couldn’t resist chasing butterflies.

And Chinook couldn’t resist chasing the ball, but she only ran to get it, not to bring it back.  :)

Ben too would chase after a toy, but then saunter back at a snail’s pace.  I couldn’t blame them… it was hot out there.

Holly was constantly standing in the shade, but keeping an eye on the action.  Smart girl.

None of us lasted outside for very long at a time.  Thankfully it is cooler inside so the dogs still got a good play in.

Weaving Machines

August 16, 2011

I don’t think too many people will argue with me if I say that watching dogs do the weave poles is one of the most exciting parts of agility.  They all have their own style, but regardless of how they get through them, they always look pretty cool!

Giant Sneak Peek

August 13, 2011

I’m spending the weekend taking pictures at Go Dog Go‘s Agility Trial.  If you aren’t doing anything tomorrow you should stop by and watch.  It is being held behind the college in one of the soccer fields.  It is free to watch, but please leave your pups at home as only the dogs entered in the event are allowed on site.  I downloaded my day’s photos and did a quick scan through to delete the “missed” shots (i.e. – they were out of focus, or in some cases I completely missed the dog! LOL) and at the same time I flagged a few favourites… The few favourites turned into 96.  Ooops!  :)

So if you want to see what you can expect, check out the teeny tiny gallery I put together.

We’ve had quite a few new dogs this summer, but I thought I’d share with you all the three newest visitors. These three are all from the same family, but couldn’t be more different than one another. Each have a distinct personality. At daycare we are very luck to get to know all the different dogs, and as they settle into the routine and find friends you really see the personalities of each dog.

storm 682x1024 The Same, but very different. This beauty is Storm. She is the trouble maker in the family, and is always into mischief….it’s a good thing she’s so cute.

simba 682x1024 The Same, but very different. And this handsome fella is Simba. We call him the Ladies Man. icon smile The Same, but very different. All the girls love him, and it’s a pretty mutual feeling I think.

mya 682x1024 The Same, but very different. Mya is the princess in the family. Preferring to sit back and watch the action rather than take the chance and get her beautiful hair dirty. :) She much prefers the well deserved attention from people and is always up for a cuddle. icon smile The Same, but very different.
