Some friends get together occasionally at Henderson Park to do some obedience training. Henderson has lots of open grassy areas and lots of people and dogs going by to add distraction and hence difficulty to the training. I decided to tag along and take some pictures.

I was completely smitten with Esmae.

How could I not be? She is not only gorgeous but is also very cuddly. Actually cuddly isn’t quite the right word to describe her. She is more like “melty”. I sat on the ground and she was instantly on my lap, melting into me like a giant marshmallow. I could have sat there all day.

Handsome Harley

IMG 9394 Handsome Harley

Harley is just as fun and playful at the dog park as he is at daycare, but he was also quite different.

IMG 8841 Handsome Harley

At daycare, Harley never plays fetch. Never. He doesn’t even look at the toys. But at the dog park, he was totally obsessed with the toys and didn’t want to stop playing fetch. When we tried to hide the toys on him, he would just wander around looking for them.

I was also expecting him to be glued to Jeri’s side. You should see how excited he gets to see Jeri when she picks him up at daycare. He can hardly contain himself. At indoor dog park, he wouldn’t leave her side unless she put him in a stay and walked away. But yesterday when we wanted to get a picture of the two of them, he was too obsessed with the toy to want to pay attention to her. icon smile Handsome Harley

It was fun to see such a different side to him.

There is something about butt shots, that always appeal to me!

Thanks Harley and Jeri for a really great time! I’m still amazed at how much fun I can have “at work”.

I met Jeri and Harley out at Peenaquim for a very fun morning. Harley was the perfect model. He wouldn’t strike a pose for long so I had to be quick but thankfully, he offered me lots of opportunities.

We ran into Eddie yesterday at the dog park.

I knew him when he was just a baby.

He hasn’t exactly grown into his ears.

But just look at those muscles! He is in great shape.

Joined at the Hip

August 8, 2009

These two sisters were so much fun to photograph.

Zing is a border collie/staffordshire terrier (aka border staffie) mix. She is a powerhouse packed into a beautiful and lithe body. She has the tongue and friendliness of a staffie (i.e. is always licking you) but the speed, agility and brains of a border collie.

She is also a typical little sister who just wants to follow her big sister Taylor everywhere she goes.

Taylor is pure border collie – in breeding and in spirit. She was very focused on her toy and her mom.

She also knows how to make an impression.

Thanks again Pat for another great time!

I met Pat again this morning to photograph two of her other dogs. She has a few. icon smile Teaser {Zing and Taylor}

Today I had the pleasure of meeting Zing, a cute border staffie and seeing Taylor, a red and white border collie, again. Zing idolizes Taylor and would follow her over a cliff if that is where Taylor decided to go. The only way to get photos of them separately was to leash one of them.

More pictures to come in the next day or two.

Lots of Moxie

July 27, 2009
I think Moxie’s name, fits her to a T.

vigor, verve, pep

This girl only stood still when waiting for the toy to be thrown and even then you could feel the energy radiating from her.

One of my favourite things about watching dogs run is that you can tell that they are doing something that they LOVE to do.

Thank you Pat and Moxie for a great time.  We can do that again any time!

Teaser – {Moxie}

July 25, 2009

I met Moxie and Pat this morning for a photo session down at Popson. Moxie was the perfect model. This is hands down, my favourite picture from the morning. I think it captures her intensity, athleticism and sense of fun. More to come soon.

Popson Park

July 24, 2009

Popson Park is one of my favourite places to take pictures of dogs. As it is an off leash park, dogs can run freely there. I think it is the least busy of the dog parks (the fact that you are sharing the space with rattlesnakes might be a reason for that!), it is next to the river so the dogs can swim, there is a mix of natural grasses and mowed areas (which are great if you have a short dog and are trying to get pictures) and if you are feeling energetic you can even climb the coulees.

At this time of year there are lots of flowers in bloom. I am sure lots of them are weeds, but their colour can still add to the beauty of a photo.

I’ll be heading out there again tomorrow morning to meet Moxie, the red and white border collie that won the photo contest a few months ago. I can’t wait. I just hope I can keep up with her!

A New Site

July 23, 2009

Sorry for moving things so soon after starting. I wanted to try a new blog hosting company for the photography blog and I just wasn’t liking it. I kept thinking that I just wasn’t familiar enough with it and that it would get better, but I just wasn’t finding the other blog site easy to manage despite a few months of trying. So back to Blogger I’ve come.  Pixel is excited about the change.

I know have been horrible at doing regular posts on the photography blog. I’m sorry! I’ve been debating whether or not to combine it with the daycare blog, but have decided that it is a separate enough service to deserve it’s own space. So please be patient, as the business grows, so will the blog.

If you are here for the first time and want to see the original blog you are free to check it out here.
