Some days going through the photos at the end of a session, I can’t help but laugh.  Rosie in particular seemed to have some funny moments.

Are legs supposed to bend like that?

I think she has holes in her mouth for water to escape through.

See what I mean?  Where is it all coming from?  LOL

She was also very goofy with the stick.

And has some pretty funny and fleeting expressions.

She tugged like a maniac.  It was all I could do to hold on.  I’m glad you can tell she is putting some effort into it as I couldn’t see a thing the way she was lurching me around.

And in the end, she even showed me her flirty dance moves.

Thanks for the laughs Rosie!  You are definitely a character.

I met up with Mel, Sean and Rosie last night for a photo session.  I had told them not to exercise Rosie before coming as I think the wilder the dog, the better.  Rosie did not disappoint!

We started off letting Rosie blow off some steam in the grasses.

She had a hard time focusing her attention on any one person to start but she had no problem focusing on the toy.

We then moved on to the water. After all that running in the grass at full speeds, she required some cooling off time.

Rosie 3 1024x682 Rosie Lethbridge Pet Photography

Not that the water slowed her down much, if at all.

Rosie 4 1024x682 Rosie Lethbridge Pet Photography

Rosie had a, shall we say, “unique” swimming style.  :)

Rosie 5 1024x682 Rosie Lethbridge Pet Photography

She would get very persistent when I was slow to throw the stick.

Then we moved back on dry land…. You can’t even tell she is soaking wet.  I wish my dogs were like that!  I had one small moment of the “Pointer’s point” that I just had get.  Mel got to witness first hand my very technical photography style… point the camera in the general direction of the dog and click the shutter.  But hey, I never would have gotten these next two without this very important technique (or heck the one above either).  Some dogs move too fast to do anything else.

Rosie 7 682x1024 Rosie Lethbridge Pet Photography

Rosie doesn’t believe in gravity.

Rosie 8 682x1024 Rosie Lethbridge Pet Photography

See what I mean?

Rosie 10 1024x682 Rosie Lethbridge Pet Photography

There was an incredible dark stormy sky so we headed to the top of coulees for a few more…  Rosie was still raring to go.

Rosie 9 1024x682 Rosie Lethbridge Pet Photography

But she was also willing to sit still for some family shots.

Thanks Mel, Sean and Rosie for a super fun night!  I will have a blooper post coming your way… I haven’t laughed that much in a long time going through a set of photos. Rosie, you ROCK.

Did you get your hands on one of Windy City Rescue’s 2012 Calendars?  If so, you are already familiar with Lorelei Hoffarth‘s work as she was the woman behind the camera for all of those incredible pictures.  I couldn’t be more pleased to be working with her to bring all of you the ultimate in family sessions.

We are still working out all the finer details (which is why you haven’t heard about this yet!) but Echo’s family contacted us and wanted to get some pictures done before his very first hair cut tomorrow.

And who wouldn’t want to remember this dude all shaggy?

Echo 1 1024x682 Family Sessions Echo

Last night was the second time we “officially” worked together.  I think it went pretty smoothly and I know I got some photos that I love and I’m sure she did too – she always does!  For the most part, Lorelei will be focusing on the people and I’ll be focusing on the dog(s), but there will be some crossover as we catch those moments “in between”.  For example, I think this was the “happy gum dance” right after Armand was promised a piece of gum if he smiled for the camera.  How could I possibly resist?

More information about these sessions will be coming soon.  Very soon.  I promise.

Thanks Beth for bringing your whole wonderful, incredible family out last night.  It was a lot of fun for us, and I hope for all of you as well.  You guys were all naturals.   And I’m glad Echo didn’t get too wet before heading home.

Did you notice that I mentioned Mini Sessions in my last blog post?  I’ve been having so much fun meeting up with people and doing brief, fun sessions in the evenings, that I’ve decided to offer Mini Sessions for those of you that just want a few pictures and not the “full meal deal” a regular session entails.

The Earth Mini Session will involve your dog running around on dry ground. This is for dogs that love to sniff, fetch and leap through the grasses.  The Water Mini Session will involve spending time in the river.  This is for dogs that love to swim, splash and get dirty.  And last but not least, the Sky Mini Sessions will be a session filled with silhouette photos similar to Tammy and Taylor’s that you saw in yesterdays post.

Check out the Mini Session page for more information.

I met Tammy and Taylor for a brief mini session the other night to get some fun silhouette photos.  I think it is safe to say we all had a lot of fun and we got some great pictures.  Tammy brought along her camera as well and after a super brief lesson on how to take silhouettes we switched places and she took some amazing ones too!

It has been a long time since I did a “Photography” post (I know, I know, it has been a long time since I did any kind of post!) so I thought I’d show you some pictures that I took while playing around with Mel and Rosie today.  I’m a little obsessed with silhouettes at the moment!  My usual “short grassed hill” was not available and I can’t decide if I love or hate all the tall grass.  I think I’d rather a have a clean background, or maybe just a little less tall grasses.

Sorry about the lack of daycare news lately.  It will definitely be a New Years Resolution of ours to get back to blogging more regularly!  To be honest we’ve all be huddling inside lately and indoor photos are just never very good!  So instead, I’ll entertain you with outdoor photos from a weekend or two ago…

Rosie’s mom (the pointer with the most brown) was looking after two little cuties the other weekend and I couldn’t resist joining them for a romp in the school grounds. The crazy guy is Finn and the sweet little pup is Bella.

I am totally in love with Finn.  He was wild, crazy and non-stop.  I think we threw the toy twice in the 45 minutes we were out.  He just grabbed hold and ran and ran and ran and ran.

Pointers 9 1024x682 A Pack of Pointers Lethbridge Pet Photography

He occasionally stopped, but never for long.

Pointers 12 1024x682 A Pack of Pointers Lethbridge Pet Photography

The poor baby was sooo cold.  Look at that pathetic little tail tuck and the lifted paw.  Bella spent most of her time in Mel’s coat and left the running to the big kids.

Pointers 13 1024x682 A Pack of Pointers Lethbridge Pet Photography

And run they did.

Pointers 21 1024x682 A Pack of Pointers Lethbridge Pet Photography

I think Rosie preferred to be the chaser and not the chasee.  She would get the toy for brief periods but then would usually let Finn win the tug-o-war and the chase would be on again.

Amazingly Finn would always look so serious whenever he stopped.  And he only really stopped if I managed to snag the toy.  Maybe he looked serious because he was worried he wasn’t going to get it back.  ;)

Once he had the toy, he was back to being the wild man he truly is.

The baby finally decided to join in the fun at the end, but it wasn’t for long!

Bad Bloggers

November 22, 2011

We’ve been horrible bloggers lately.  Just horrible.  We appologize!  We’ve been busy.  One of the things we’ve been busy doing is hiring someone new to hang out with the pups. And we found the perfect woman.  Kira started this week and you’ll be seeing her smiling face soon.

And to make it up to you for the bad blogging, I bring you puppy pictures!!!  This is Luna.  She is a baby brittany spaniel and she was so brave hanging out in the cold this weekend.  She was also the best baby fetcher I’ve ever met.  Normally when you throw a toy for a dog that young, they can’t follow where it went. Not Luna!  She always ran to where I threw it and then would sniff around until she found it.  Clever girl!

Yesterday Jo and I headed to Alta Pete’s farm for some sheep herding fun.  Amanda was out earlier in the day too with her border collie Brit.  It was Jo’s dog Kort’s second time seeing sheep and I came out to photograph the event.  We also got to watch another friend’s dogs (Swift and Mya) play.  It was pretty interesting to see the different personalities and styles from all three dogs.

Grizzy

October 22, 2011

Last weekend, Grizzy, her mom and I headed out to the Fort Macleod dog park.  We all drove out there together and I managed to keep the front seat to myself the entire time – despite a few attempts from Grizz to use me as a pillow.  (I noticed on the way home, she was too tired to do anything but curl up on the back seat.)

Grizzy 2 Grizzy

I think Grizzy had a pretty good time.  She seemed to have  a smile on her face the entire time.

Grizzy1 Grizzy

At least, as far as we could tell, she was always smiling.  We saw a lot of this…

Grizzy 3 Grizzy

I love all the wonderful shrubbery and tall grasses in this area.  Grizzy had a blast running all over the place breathing in all the interesting smells.  Personally, I wanted her to stay on the paths so I had a decent chance of getting a picture without grasses covering half her face.  She complied a few times, but it never lasted long.  :)

Grizzy 4 Grizzy

But no worries.  Our cure for that was to head down to the river.  Grizzy was equally happy to be running down along the shore.

Grizzy 5 Grizzy

I also asked her to pose on a rock for me.  She was more than happy to agree because she knew she would get a cookie.

Grizzy 6 Grizzy

But then she turned into a modeling diva and started demanding the cookies at a rate faster than I was willing to dole them out!  LOL

Grizzy 8 Grizzy

Ah Grizzy.  I really do love your sassiness.  There is never a dull moment with you around.  Thanks ladies for a great morning.  It was the perfect start to the weekend.

Grizzy2 2 Grizzy

If you’ve never been to the dog park in Fort Macleod before, it my opinion, it is worth the drive on occasion  For the most part, you wander amongst the trees and shrubs along deer paths trying not to get lost. I tend to turn the GPS on my phone on incase I get turned around. (I’ve been known to be stuck out there a little longer than I planned trying to find the way back to my car, but I have a HORRIBLE sense of direction.  I’m sure the rest of you will be fine.)  If your dog is used to the all the prairie grasses, this area gives them a tonne of wonderful new smells to enjoy.  Just keep your eyes open for wildlife (I’ve seen deer and elk down there).
